O'Connor Christmas - What's bigger....

Oh good, I was really hoping that this would come through well. As you can see, our flight departs at 10:20. and it is 8:50. We're chillin at our gate. Checked in and cozy. Eatin our breakfast of hot chocolate pop tarts (yes that is what they are called) and well, I don't know what everyone else is drinking but I've gone back to my old favorite just before vacation is over. Since you can drink anything while on vacation, don't tell my doc, I'm having a raspberry mocha. oooh yeah baby! And I learned in so drinking that, while taking in its warm, chocolaty fruity goodness, all my relatively close stresses can seem to shrink in comparison....

See what I mean. It can happen to you, too. Even second hand. Amazing isn't it? I think it can happen even if you're not a coffee drinker. Raspberry mocha was the first 'coffee' drink I ever tried. I say 'coffee' in quotes b/c if you're a REAL coffee drinker it's probably too fru-fru for you. But it's like an old friend. That's how my wife started, and speaking of my wife...

see what I mean again. Don't worry. She knows I took this picture. If you know her well you can see the smirk behind that pop-tart bite she's about to take. :)

Anyway, it's been a great vacation. And all kidding aside about the Starbucks taking the sting off the attitudes, and being at the gate EXTREMELY early for a REYNOLDS, we (I) have learned some great life lessons.

At the Christmas dinner, I was graciously asked to say grace. One thought was on my mind. When we come together as a family at the holidays there is so much pressure. So much anticipation and planning. For me personally I remember what it was like as a kid and there is never any way it can measure up to what it was like then. I mean the innocence of youth and everything. Things are much more complicated now. Plus as an adult its like you have all these expectations and inevitably things fall short. And when more than one adult is in the room, and more than one expectation falls short, tempers sometimes fly. But isn't that what family is?

Holidays are about building memories. And memories, as I have recently learned, are not always the happy ones. Family is not always the easy times. Real relationships are not always the perfect ones. My family is not prefect. But it is real. It is intense. It is passionate. It is deep. It is about love and laughter, tears and tantrums (me just as much as the little ones). God has to deal with my childish behaviors as much as I have to deal with my kid's choices.

So we are real with each other. And why don't we just acknowledge that this season, we're gonna have those times. We're gonna be real. We're gonna have a fit now and then. And that is okay. In fact that is more than okay. It's family. It's building memories. And if you have little kids, you're building a system, a network of support for the times later on that is strong and deep and wide enough to support the storms of adolescence and early adulthood. If there aren't some turbulent waters now, how will we navigate those times then.

If you are reading this page, chances are, I love you. Even if you don't know me and landed here somehow, I care about you as a human being. I want the best for you as I want the best for everyone. God bless you. I believe in the deepest recesses of my being the He loves you. We are the ones who complicate it. And especially now. We start off well. We mean well. Then we get it sideways somewhere along the way. Let's keep it simple. Okay?

Go make some memories. And when the tempers fly, like they sometimes do in my house, just say "well, this is my family and I love my family" If you have the ability to calm down and pull out and away for a bit, do so. take a deep breath every now and again. Sometimes I do it enough I feel like I'm gonna pass out! But there are those times when the memories do happen.

This morning about 3 am I woke up and just stared at Noah. We were sharing a bed and I just felt the tenderness of his breath on my hand. He looked like an angel just laying there. no arguing. no fighting. no attitude. I don't want him like that all the time, because there was no life in that moment, there was peace, sure, but it wasn't near as fun! it wasn't near the challenge! I could say the same about Nina. There wasn't her tender little voice speaking to me the way she does. She wasn't complaining either! I'd still rather have them awake.

Then I thought about how God sees us when we are sleeping. What does He think? What does He think is bigger? Our attitudes? Our our hearts?

You decide. And Merry Christmas!

O'Connor Christmas - Kids Cams

Okay everyone!
Here is the page with all the pix from the kids new cams they got from Uncle john. Maybe at a later date they will have their own page, but for now, I will just list them by the photographer.

-----------------Nina's pix----------------

-----------------Noah's pix----------------

And finally, the one's you've been waiting for...

there is a huge family resemblance in the following photos. Can you name all these people? :)

these were actually taken by a anonymous photographer.
hope you enjoyed them as much as we did.
and we'll finish with this video:

O'Connor Christmas - Christmas Day 2007

It is the tradition of the O'Connor clan to open one gift at a time, beginning with the oldest family member first. A great tradition, because it teaches the youngest to respect those older than themselves (which they did very well I might say), and everyone gets to enjoy the best part of Christmas: gift GIVING. So in the spirit of this tradition, Grampy went first!

Then Auntie Pattie... Now this is the hottest cookbook just translated to english. Although I don't think she really needs it. Considering she can do nothing short of MIRACLES with stuff from magazines, as i have referred to earlier. (pause for momentary salivation... Ahhhh) Anyway I'm sure that at least one of those 1080 delectible delights just HAS to become part of some tradition sometime that will somehow make its way to my precious palate. Ooh, sorry. Was that self-cenetered? I mean, I'm sure it will become part of something that Pat will use to bless lots of people. (that sounds weak, still only thinking about what it might be and how it might taste... oh well)

Auntie Moe and some pretty girlie stuff. nuf said. :) Most people say that Caryn and Auntie Moe look a lot alike, but there are photos coming on a later Blog that will show how much the family resemblence is actually passed to the in-laws, myself in particular. Keep visiting.

Look at these precious little ones waiting so patiently. And they really were. They were just sitting there waiting. WHO WOULD HAVE BELIEVED IT! My oh my!

Uncle John and his Grinch T-shirt. But... he bought the kids AWESOME presents... must be cuza the movie.

Kids still patiently waiting. Although Nina is splitting in two in anticipation (one drawback of a moving target with a panorama image and the phone cam)

I should mention here that Auntie Kathy is totally left out of these
pictures. Sorry. just didn't make into the phone cam. Rest
assured she did make it onto the regular cam so she will be on another page in
the future!

Nina's first Cabbage Patch collectables! The smile looks a little phony. But she really was excited. it's just the fever. :(

Sara LOVED her new ORIGINAL DESIGNER HAND MADE BAG!

These bags are available for YOU to purchase (pick your own fabric). As soon as I get a URL to link to, I will put it here. Keep checking back! :)

oh yeah more stuff! These are from a very short family member. His name is Warren.

And here he is! Isn't he PRECIOUS! He also has an INSATIABLE APPETITE! During the opening of gifts he himself single-handedly, or should I say single-fangedly, opened a football (seen in the foreground) and de-eyed a lobster then removed it's stuffing. Don't be fooled. He's nice to humans but look out if you're a dog toy. Woah. No, really he's a great guy. You can't see it here, but he also bears a striking resemblence to the author of this blog. Check for later blogs to find out more.

A few of Noah's presents. The digital camera like his sister's that came from Uncle John. (yes, both kids wanna have their own blogs.. what have we done now!) and this totally rad microsope. (yeah. 'totally rad.' I'm an 80's kid. i know. "86! 86! 80-80-80-80-86!")

O'Connor Christmas - Parade Fun

IT FINALLY CAME

After much anticipation the parade finally made it's way past our waiting gazes! With lots of hollaring! In true southern style, the parade floats threw neclaces in mardi-gras fashion to the waiting arms of everyone in our clan. And to the trees and the roof as well!

This is the back end of the pirate ship from above. The 'canon' blast from these guys made everyone jump a little. GREAT FUN!

What parade would be complete without a fire engine or two?

This pirate ship caught my phone cam with a little blur because in the other hand I was catching necklaces... see the ones leaving that guy's hand in the center? oh yeah, I caught em! heh heh.

And of course the parade ends with SANTA CLAUSE! He must have been SWEATING in that SUIT! LOL!

But you didn't want to see that, did you? You want to see these beautiful faces! All decked out in their prizes! YAY!
We all had a great time enjoying the parade from our porch. And the best part was we were all together, it was totally free and unexpected. And now we are headed over to Auntie Patty's and Uncle Buddies for CHRISTMAS together! What a fun parade day! Hope you enjoyed it, too.

:)

O'Connor Christmas - Sunny Saturday

Yes. It's parade day. But it started with an amazing b-fast. And even Noah ate something that had "caserole" in its name. Wow! and I've got pictures to prove it!

This breakfast extravaganza was like french toast and craizins and syrup and eggs (and yes Noah knew that) all wrapped up and covered with butter and syrup. YES! it was nummers!

A view of the beach from about 9 this morning. it looks like a beautiful day today. We will be celebrating Christmas at Auntie Pat's after the parade!

Here's a great picture from the gulf side beach, through the street next to the cottage to the other side of the island. It is not an illusion: it is really narrow at this spot. The peach colored house in the center is our cottage. :) Cool huh?

This is on the gulf beach (Coquina beach actually) there are several of them. The sign warns that they are not for recreation but that they are beach errosion prevention construction thing-a-majigs. or something like that. they are concrete and the birds love to sit on them. That's about all I can really tell ya.

This is a better picture of the cottage we are staying in, complete with Auntie Maureen's addition of the Ohio State kite (some fans here I guess). Anyways, the parade takes a while to run the length of the island, so you're getting these bonus pictures. Freebes. :) Yeah, I'm blogging as I wait. And thanks to Allison I'm trying not to elipse. (that's a '...' she says I use too many of them. Must be the student in her.)

Every body waiting for the parade to start, er, rather, get to where we are.
I'll do a separate blog for the parade... we can hear the sirens now!

O'Connor Christmas - Florida Friday

I left things earlier today that I was going to lunch I think... which was amazing as usual. The food around the O'C's is always amazing. And no, you can't have any. I got to have the first bite. I dunno why. Best part is, Pat says, "yeah, I got the recipe out of some magazine..." Okay, seriously? when I do that it really tastes like... well... like magazine.

Anyways, kids had a great time swimming. I recovered from a nasty snowball, laden with rocks, but that's another story. If I have the chance tomorrow (which is our Christmas) I get some pictures other than phone cam pictures.... but for now...

We decided to take the Nin-ster to urgent care for her cough which is a story in itself. We were all at Pat's when we realized our insurance card was back at the cottage on the island. So I trecked back out to the island (qualifies as alone time) to get the insurance card, one b-day gift for cousin sara, and some adult cough medicine for Caryn (yes she's coughing too, oh my). Upon arrival back to Pat's, Caryn and I realized her driver's license was not with the insurance card. And given that we thought it wouldn't be wise to leave Noah with everyone, we all went to urgent care.

The doc gave us a prescription for a medication that was not found at the first two pharmacies we stopped at. So we made sure that the third one actually had it. Oh, and i didn't mention that the credit card was with Caryn's license, yeah, on the island, so we ended up paying precious vacation cash for the transaction at the dr's office... oh well. Not to worry though, we had support from the fam in case we hit the bottom of the barrel. :)

So there she is... now... does she look sick? not really. But she gets a fever every afternoon/evening just like her big brother did when he had walking pneumonia 2 weeks ago... Hmmmm. its a good thing we got her on an antibiotic at about 10:15 tonight. after 1 urgent care, 3 pharmacies, etc etc etc.

End of Friday....

Tomorrow looks promising... there is supposed to be a big parade just for us going right past our cottage by the sea. okay okay... it's not just for us... but there is going to be a parade and the whole clan is coming here to see it. AND THEY'RE BRINGING FOOD!

forgot this one... Uncle Buddy, Noah and Andy. Just a great picture, don't you think?

What florida pictures would be complete without one of these little guys? okay, if you read this far, then I have something for you. Do you know WHY the first picture on this page has the name it does? See if you can figure THAT one out! HINT: I'm in the picture somewhere. :)

O'Connor Christmas - just hangin

HELLO EVERYONE FROM FLORIDA 2007

I finally got to a high speed internet connection and could update this page from the Florida experience complete with photos. I have a bit of time so I will give you more pictures than verbage and update the verbage later. :)

After a snowy departure on wednesday, a warm welcome in Florida! This is Jack (caryn's Dad), Auntie Maureen with Nina, Auntie Pattie with Noah. They met us at the airport just as we were getting our luggage. Noah was delighted to see them all with their Santa hats on because he had his on the ENTIRE way from Indiana! What a surprise! LOL!

Yes they have been playing on the beach and in water! It has been in the upper 70's during the day so plenty warm enough. And Nina doesn't really remember the last time we were down here (2 years ago) so she is LOVING it. Since we decided to stay away from Grampy yesterday because we weren't sure about her cough, they were playing in the sand for a few hours. Later, we talked with Grampy and he assured us that his medicine should protect him from any of Nina's germs. GOOD NEWS! so last night we were all back together again! :)

Another phone cam picture - last nights dinner setup at the cottage. everyone is too tiny to name, but it was really really fun being there together! we had pasta and chicken parmesean and bread (which was Noahs favorite) Nina liked the pasta!

Last nights sunset - phone cam strikes again!
I know they aren't great, but they upload so fast! :)

Now the kiddos are enjoying Aunt Patty and Uncle Buddy's Pool! (Yes, phonecam) I can smell lunch in the kitchen now.... YUM!

Caryn and Dad (Jack) - He says "I've got pills for everything and they all work!" We are glad to have the time to spend with him and the family here in florida. And I better leave this computer and go do just that!

MORE LATER!
